Uganda’s former Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Katungi Mpeirwe has been discontinued as the officer responsible for International Relations in Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), following reported involvement in drug and arms smuggling for a highly revered Mexican drug cartel.
Media outlets are awash with news that Katungi is wanted by the US government over involvement in smuggling and selling highly sophisticated weaponry to the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), classified as a terrorist group.
He is wanted together with Elisha Odiambo Asumo, a Kenyan, Subiro Osmund Mwapinga, a Tanzanian and team leader Peter Dmitrov Mirchev of Bulgaria, for striking a deal worth sh214,600,000,000 and involving automatic rifles and surface-to-air missiles (SAM). His three colleagues have already been held.

In a message posted on his X handle, Gen. Muhoozi who is the PLU chairman, declared Katungi’s dismissal, and disclosed that henceforth, he alone retains the responsibility to name PLU officers to serve in international committees of the group.
PLU officer responsible for Buganda, Frank Gashumba confirmed Katungi’s dismissal, adding that it was effected by their chairman who invoked his authority as the chairman.
