“We cannot tolerate this indiscipline; Ministry of Health is always issuing statements on the rampant irregularities in the health facilities, we cannot simply sit back and just look on,” he said.
Kawempe Doctors Charged Over Neglecting Baby Leading to Its Death
Kayunga Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Mahabba Malik has interdicted four medical doctors of Bbaale Health Centre IV including the in-charge of the facility for irregularities including absenteeism and extortion of money from patients. The four were interdicted to create room for investigation into the anomalies.
Kayunga Assistant District Health Officer (ADHO) Olive Busingye confirmed the interdiction and noted that to ensure that there is minimal interference in health service delivery at the unit, changes including bringing in two doctors from Kangulumira HC IV to cover up loopholes created, have been effected.

CAO Mahabba disclosed that after getting wind of the irregularities by the four including the Senior Medical Officer Dr. Kiyimba Daniel and the three Medical Officers; Dr. Nsereko Isaac Moses, Dr. Wabigogobye Herbert and Dr. Mabinda John Wanda, he led a team of district health personnel to Bbaale, held a meeting and established that true, there were anomalies by the four.
Irregularities discovered include non-performance characterized by absenteeism where the four reported for duty for between five and nine days each in the month of August, spending more time in their private clinics than in the facility, and extortion of money from patients in return for medical services.
To check on the effectiveness of the step taken, the CAO said that a check made in several health units elsewhere in the district a few days after the interdiction indicated that all staff were at work on schedule.
“We cannot tolerate this indiscipline; Ministry of Health is always issuing statements on the rampant irregularities in the health facilities, we cannot simply sit back and just look on,” he said.

He also noted that when he had just been assigned work in the district, there was a lot of drug thefts and five medical personnel also from the same facility in Bbaale were interdicted.
Commenting on the development, the Ag District Health Officer Olive Busingye said it was necessary for other would-be culprits to be cautious and think twice before engaging in the same crime.
