The police in Kampala Business District on Monday arrested politicians over the free Dr. Besigye protest. The suspects who are currently in police custody include; Doreen Nyanjura, the Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Ingrid Turinawe among others. The suspects have been arrested from Arua Park in Kampala.
Police and the army from Sunday evening heavily deployed in Kampala and the surrounding areas in intent to foil the alleged heavy demonstrations of people demanding for the immediate release of Dr. Kizza Besigye who is currently on remand at Luzira prison despite his ill health.
Also on Sunday evening, through Dr. Besigye’s lawyer, Elias Lukwago, Ugandans learnt that Besigye had been rushed to a certain private medical facility at Bugoloobi in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Leader of Opposition i Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, former LOP, Winnie Kiiza, NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya and other politicians today visited Dr. Beisgye at Luzira prison.
However, Kyagulanyi through his X handle said that they couldn’t see Dr. Besigye following his poor health conditions. He said that he instead sent to them Haji Obed Kamulegeya to address them.

Kyagulanyi’s communication goes as follows;
“We passed by Luzira Upper Prison to check on Dr. Kizza Besigye who has been on a hunger strike to protest against his illegal detention. We were not able to see him because he is very frail and weak. He sent a message to us through Hajj Obed Lutale Kamulegeya who briefed us on his worrying state of health, to a point that he collapsed this morning. He demands for his freedom, and emphasises that if the state has any legitimate case against him, he should be tried in a civilian court! We also met comrade Bobi Young who sends warm greetings to all of you.
Later today, we shall meet with our compatriots from the other forces of change to discuss the other steps we must take to demand for the freedom of Dr. Besigye and other political prisoners. In the meantime, we call upon all citizens to take whatever steps and actions to demand for their freedom.”
