“His rich English vocabulary and polished writing style became his signature. Many young reporters in Mukono credit him for mentoring them, correcting their scripts with patience and challenging them to pursue excellence,” Nsubuga said.

A heavy cloud of grief hangs over Greater Mukono as the media fraternity mourns the passing of veteran journalist Mike-Musisi Musoke, a man whose voice and pen shaped stories across the region for more than four decades.
Musisi, a resident of Nsambwe Cell in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality, was admitted last Wednesday to Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital after falling ill. Doctors diagnosed him with high blood pressure and diabetes. After responding well to treatment, he was discharged on Friday, offering his family and colleagues a glimmer of hope.
But the hope was short-lived.
According to his wife, Musisi’s condition worsened on Tuesday. As the family prepared to rush him back to the hospital, he passed away, leaving behind a stunned household and a devastated fraternity.

For over 40 years, Musisi’s career spanned some of Uganda’s most prominent media houses. He worked with Uganda Television (UTV), New Vision, WBS Television, Daily Monitor, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), and Radio One. In his later years, he continued doing what he loved most — reporting — with Kyaggwe TV, a Mukono-based social media platform.
Henry Nsubuga, New Vision’s correspondent remembers Musisi not just as a journalist, but as a craftsman of language.
“His rich English vocabulary and polished writing style became his signature. Many young reporters in Mukono credit him for mentoring them, correcting their scripts with patience and challenging them to pursue excellence,” Nsubuga said.
“He believed words carried responsibility,” one fellow journalist said quietly during the vigil. “And he treated every story like it mattered — because to him, it did.”
As news of his passing spread, friends, family members, and fellow journalists gathered at his home in Nsambwe for a night vigil, sharing stories of newsroom deadlines, field assignments, and the laughter that often followed long days of work.
George Musisi, the Kira Municipality MP elect, a family member said that Musisi will be laid to rest on Thursday at Maseke village in Nkokonjeru, Buikwe District at 2:00pm— a final journey for a man who spent his life telling the stories of others.
In Mukono’s media circles, his absence will be deeply felt. His bylines may cease, but the legacy of integrity, eloquence, and dedication he leaves behind will continue to inspire generations of journalists to come.
