In a shocking turn of events, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the former presidential candidate, has revealed that he is alive and safe after a dramatic raid on his Magere home.
In a statement he posted on his social media handles, Kyagulanyi says the incident, which occurred on the night of January 16, 2026, has left his family under house arrest and sparked widespread concern.
According to Kyagulanyi, security forces, including the military and police, stormed his residence, switching off power and disabling CCTV cameras. He managed to escape, but his wife and other family members remain detained.
The raid comes as Uganda’s presidential election results which declared Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a winner sparked controversy, with Kyagulanyi rejecting the outcome and accusing the government of fraud and violence. “I reiterate our COMPLETE REJECTION of the fake results,” he stated.
Kyagulanyi’s statement also condemned the murder of citizens protesting election irregularities and alleged targeting of opposition candidates. “The people of Uganda have the right to protest… This is absolute madness,” he said.
As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the election, Kyagulanyi’s fate and the safety of his family remain uncertain.
