Over 20 supporters of Kawempe North NUP candidate Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola including two Member of Parliament, Muwada Nkunyingi (Kyadondo East) and Derrick Nyeko (Makindye East) are allegedly detained at Wandegeya Police Station following their arrest in the ongoing scuffle between NUP supporters and operatives of the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT).

The detainees were arrested on Monday as they followed their party flag bearer on the way to Kawempe Primary School playground for Nalukoola’s main rally.

According to the NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Lubongoya, many of the NUP supporters were yesterday picked from their party headquarters at Makerere Kavule by JATT operatives who had camped outside their offices.

They were picked as they prepared to proceed to Kawempe for Nalukoola’s rally, and it has been established that some of those in detention include Asega Habib, Nabbosa Prossy, Mukisa, Olivia Katende, Mayega Ronald, Namuli, and others.

It is alleged that among the detainees, many were seriously beaten, injured and they are in dire need for treatment though police is holding them in custody.

Lubongoya who went to Wandegeya to check on the detainees, said he has established that they were beaten up on arrest and later dumped at Wandegeya police.

He said many sustained multiple bodily injuries, are in great pain and in need of urgent medical attention.

“Our legal team is doing everything to secure their release”, Lubongoya’s statement on his X handle reads in bit.
