Muledhu further accused the doctor of taking all the household property and selling land they had bought at Ntaawo, in Mukono.
Divorce documents from a 2011 case at the Nakawa Court case show that Dr Joan Babalanda, now a senior surgeon at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, quietly assigned one baby boy to two fathers, a phenomenon otherwise common with village belles.
Records show that Babalanda married David Muledhu on December 7, 2007. On 27 April 2008, a baby was born whom Muledhu was told was his, and he gave him a name.
However, to his shock, after the child’s first birth day celebrations held on 28th April 2009, he was told the child was not his but belonged to a one Denis Muhwezi. The baby’s name was promptly changed.
Muledhu further accused the doctor of taking all the household property and selling land they had bought at Ntaawo, in Mukono.
They later filed for divorce and separated, with Balabanda accusing Muledhu of cruelty. In Babalanda’s petition against Muledhu, she says he used to regularly batter her which she adds, at one point led to a premature termination of her pregnancy.
She further accuses him of cheating on her to the extent of engaging an extra marital affair with another woman, with whom he currently co-habits and that they had even produced a baby out of this relationship. He is said to have deserted the family and took on the new lover.
Denying the battering claims, Muledhu said Babalanda gave their son to another man called Dennis Muhwezi, who changed the child’s names from the one he had given him. Out of the ensuing frustration and embarrassment, Babalanda developed abnormalities which led to her miscarriage, he claimed further.
“On our separation, I gave her my car, and in addition she took all the household property and sold our land at Ntaawo in Mukono Municipality, so the desertion claims hold no water”, Muledhu said in defence.
In a similar manner, Maledhu’s lover out rightly denied Babalanda’s claims against her, and added that she was the author of what she termed desertion by her husband, through her unethical conduct of juggling one baby between two fathers.
