Jinja City Education Officer Remanded Over Abuse of Office

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with the Crime Investigations Department and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have arraigned the Jinja Education Officer before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of abuse of office.

The court has identified the suspect as Mutesi Amina, the Jinja City’s Principal Education Officer. Mutesi joins Mulopa Haruna, the Education Officer and Ngobi Samuel, the Assistant Sports Officer who were earlier charged.

Mutesi being a Principal Education officer is said to have abused her authority by irregularly ordering Head Teachers of several government-aided schools in Jinja city, to divert UPE capitation grants that had been sent to their schools by government to other activities within the city.

Court has heard that Mutesi’s act contravenes with the UPE Guidelines and Regulations for handling public funds. She has been remanded.
