The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) has today arrested the Mukono District Service Commission (DSC) chairperson, Eng. Godfrey Kibuuka Kisuule and the Mukono district Speaker, Betty Hope Nakasi.
Mariam Natasha, the SHACU spokesperson has confirmed the dual’s arrest saying they have been detained at Mukono Central Police Station on charges of soliciting money.
It is alleged that Nakasi has been conducting a middleman role in soliciting money from the victims.
One of the SHACU officials who has spoken to Kyaggwe TV on conditions of anonymity says that a number of people who offered bribes ranging between sh5-40m missed out on the jobs which were instead given to the spouses and relatives of the district officers and some of the prominent politicians.
“All the people who got jobs without following proper procedures are going to lose them immediately after the investigations are done,” he said.
Natasha said they are currently holding investigations pending next week when the suspects including those who are already arrested and others who are still at large will be taken to court and face the long arm of the law.
On Wednesday, Mukono district chairman, Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa expelled the services of the Mukono District Service Commission due to corruption allegations.
Bakaluba said he had received plenty of people complaining that they had paid so much money which were asked from them in return of the jobs but ended up losing out.
He called upon people whose money had been taken and failed to get the jobs; “I hear people have paid over sh20m-40m, let those come and give us information so that we can fight this vice.”
Mukono district spent over three years without the District Service Commission as the district chairperson Bakaluba protested the former DSC chairperson, Stella Kiondo from being part of the commit.
Bakaluba alleged that he had received a number of people complaining that Kiondo had received bribes from them and failed to secure for them jobs.
However, after the intervention of different district stakeholders including the Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala and the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, Bakaluba gave up and allowed Kiondo to join the commission however not as a chairperson but as a member.
The Mukono district service commission comprise of Godfrey Kibuuke Kisuule as the chairperson, Arthur Blick Mugerwa Snr representing the People with disabilities, Idris Ssemakula, Stella Kiyondo and Lydia Nakachwa and its members. The commission got into office in August 2024.
