Journalists have been today beaten by the military officials who were found guarding the headquarters of National Unity Platform (NUP) at Makerere Kavule as the NUP leaders demanded access into their premises.
The NUP officials were led by the NUP Vice President for Buganda Region, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, party Secretary General, David Lewis Lubongoya among others.

Ssenyonyi, through his X handle reports that the military which was still in place at their party headquarters which has been in their hands for two days first denied them access and in the due course, they beat the journalists who were covering the event with electricity wires.
He however says that they later gave way and left the premises, hence letting them to access the fully vandalized offices.
Ssenyonyi’s statement on X goes as follows;
“Today we went to the NUP School of Leadership in Kamwokya, and found that the military had vandalized our property.
We proceeded to our Headquarters in Kavule, and the military was still in place and first denied us access. They even beat up some journalists using cable wires. We insisted that if they are conducting a legal search, we ought to be present.

They eventually departed and we accessed our offices.
In the two days that they have been at our premises, they have wrecked so much havoc. Doors were broken, money taken from our accounts office, computers taken, electricity and internet wires were cut, cameras disconnected, and a lot more property was destroyed.
We are going to do proper stock-taking to establish all that’s been taken, and the extent of the damage.
While these illegal acts tend to disorganize our operations a little bit, they will certainly not break our resolve.”
