Kiteezi Landslide: Five Confirmed Dead, Six Rescued as the Search Continues

Five people have been confirmed dead and six rescued alive. This follows the early morning tragedy that befell the people of Lusanja-Kiteezi as garbage from the Kiteezi landfill curved in, burring a number of homes, animals, and some people inside their houses.

The unfortunate incident is said to have resulted from the heavy downpour last night. There are still a big number of people who are fearful as they are yet to find their loved ones either dead or alive.

One of the affected residents had told Kyaggwe TV that four of her children, a housemaid and tenants from her houses were all buried by the garbage. By press time, they had not yet been rescued.

“I wish it was a school day, some of the children would have been at school. But I left them in the house sleeping and it is fully covered by the garbage,” she said while crying.

The incident is said to have happened at around 8:00am. The Kiteezi landfill, which processes about 1,500 tons of waste daily, is the one which experienced this major slide.

Police are yet to come out with a notice regarding this incident elaborating on the number of people confirmed dead, the casualties, houses, homes and animals affected.
