In his accusations against Kyagulanyi and his team, IGP Byakagaba blamed them for making riotous and inciting processions, exceeding the time set by the EC for campaigning, and other accusations.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu ‘Bobi Wine’ has made a desperate appeal to the Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, to dutifully come out and pronounce himself on the untold suffering meted out to himself and his supporters as they traverse the country canvassing for votes ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He cited inhuman treatment subjected to his team by the police and army including use of live bullets, tear gas, flogging and knocking them dead with police patrol vehicles.

Kyagulanyi said his life is in danger following multitudes of armed cops and soldiers trailing him during campaign trails with hooded faces.

Kyagulanyi and his supporters showered with tear gas during one of his recent campaign trail.

The musician-turned politician who was in Luweero in his ongoing campaign rounds, told his listeners that Museveni lured them into supporting his guerilla war with claims that he was fighting for the then Democratic Party (DP) president the late Paul Ssemogerere, to reverse the vote rigging in which the UPC government illegally grabbed his victory from the 1980 elections.

“Museveni enticed you into joining his bandwagon and you released your sons to fight with him, and he later turned against you which has resulted into present-day suffering by sons and grandchildren of the people who fought with him,” Kyagulanyi said.

He told supporters that he had been subjected to a lot of tear gas and pepper spray while in Kira in Kyaddondo, that his eyes were painful up to then.

Katikamu South MP, Haji Hassan Kirumira said he is fighting a battle that was started by his grandparents, and that he was now joining fellow fighter Kyagulanyi to ensure it is brought to the decisive end.

Before setting off from his home at Magere, Kyagulanyi addressed a press conference during which he watered down claims by police IGP Byakagaba to the effect that he (Kyagulanyi) and his supporters had behaved in conduct fraught with causing flaws in the law, and so warranting the harshness with which they were being treated.

Instead, he said, it is security agents that broke the law by blocking roads for him, firing tear gas canisters among his followers, and shooting live bullets that culminated into the death of one of his supporters in Iganga, Mesach Okello.

In his accusations against Kyagulanyi and his team, IGP Byakagaba blamed them for making riotous and inciting processions, exceeding the time set by the EC for campaigning, and other accusations.
