Kyambogo University Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified two prominent guild presidential candidates 2024/2025 for flouting the university rules and guidelines.

The affected candidates include, National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Humphrey Mugalya and National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Thomas Rwantonzi a.k.a Masavu.

It is alleged that one of the reasons which made the duo to be disqualified was placing their campaign posters in places where they were not supposed to.

In a notice to the electorate issued on Saturday March 8, 2025 by the EC showing the duly nominated candidates, the names of NRM’s Rwantonzi and NUP’s Mugalya were missing.

“Reference is made to the above. Having carried out a thorough scrutinisation and verification of the nomination documents submitted to the Electoral Commission. The successful candidates are herein under listed,” the notice reads in bits.

The nominated candidates include; Agaba Edward, Akiso Benjamin, Andama Emmanuel, Bwete Tonney and Mulumba Winnie and Mwesigwa Timothy.

The notice further revealed; “Candidates, RWANTONZI THOMAS and MUGALYA HUMPHREY were found ineligible to contest for the post of Guild President in accordance with Article 9 Clause 1(e) of the Guild Constitution.”

The notice was signed and stamped by the University’s EC chairperson, Brenda Nyangoma and the secretary, Osman Mohamed Ahmed.

It was copied to the chairperson and members of the Top Management, University Senate, caretaker government and chief security.

The Kyambogo University guild elections failed to be effected last year as the administrators kept postponing them and at last, the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elly Katunguka suspended them indefinitely.
