Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Eli Katunguka-Rwakishaya has suspended 16 students including the Guild President, Benjamin Akiso.
Others include; Owor John Musanja, Kiptoo Ian Cheywa, Avaye Nickson, Washitwaya Joel Vincent, Nansanja Winnie, Moro Alfred, Kajubi Maktum, and MuroziAbel.
others are; Namanya Bashaija Hillary, Muguluma Wahab, Muganzi Asaph, Okello Emmanuel, Kiwumulo Paul, Kabuni Evalyn and Kayemba Muhammed.

The suspension letter reads in details;
RE: TEMPORARY SUSPENSION FROM KYAMBOGO UNIVERSITYPENDING DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDINGS
I have received a preliminary report of alleged misconduct from the Office of the Dean of Students involving your alleged participation in acts that disrupted University activities on 23rd April 2025, including but not limited to:
(a) Chasing fellow students from lecture rooms while lectures were ongoing,
(b) Causing commotion around the University premises,
(c) Causing commotion and burning tyres outside the University in the area of Banda and
(d) Participating in an unauthorized demonstration in contravention of Regulation 19 of the Students’ Regulations,
In light of the above, you are hereby notified that your actions may have constituted a breach of the University’s Students’ Regulations, specifically:
- Regulation 15, which prohibits conduct detrimental to the University’s reputation.
- Regulation 19, which requires prior notice and lawful authorization for demonstrations.
In accordance with Regulation 40 of the Kyambogo University Students’ Regulations, which empowers the Vice Chancellor to suspend a student if, in his opinion, such action is in the best interest of the University:
You are hereby suspended from Kyambogo University with immediate effect pending a formal hearing before the Students’ Affairs and Welfare Committee. The suspension shall run from 29th April to 31st May 2025.
During the suspension period:
- You shall not access the University premises without express written permission from the Vice Chancellor.
- You are advised to prepare for your defense and await formal communication regarding the charges against you, the date and time of the Disciplinary Committee hearing.
The University is committed to upholding justice and ensuring that all disciplinary matters are handled in accordance with the principles of natural justice, including your right to be heard.
