Tragedy has again struck the people of Bulambuli district following the landslides which buried an unidentified number of people.

The landslides hit the villages of Masubu, Nameche Trading Centre, Mamono, Tangalu, Buzemulili and Masooli in Buluganya sub-county.

The local leaders are blaming the landslides on November 27, 2024 heavy rains which left the soils so weak.

Though according to the Red Cross, the incident completely buried 40 households, with others sustaining partial damages, by Thursday morning, November 28, 2024, a total of 13 bodies had been retrieved from the mud.

“So far, 13 bodies have been recovered by the Uganda Red Cross Society team working together with the local authorities and community members. Our team of trained first responders, together with the local leadership is conducting a Rapid Needs Assessment to inform the next cause of action,” said John Cliff Wamala, the spokesperson for Uganda Red Cross Society in a press statement.
