Shock and fear have gripped pupils and staff at Nakabbale Care Academy in Mayuge District following the tragic death of a teacher who was struck by lightning while conducting a lesson.

The deceased has been identified as Kisaale Aramathan, who was teaching a Primary Four class when the incident occurred on Tuesday.

According to Sulait Kayanja, the chairperson of Nakabbale Village, the lightning strike happened during a light drizzle.

Kayanja said the teacher was in the middle of a lesson when lightning suddenly struck, killing him instantly and leaving pupils and fellow teachers in shock.

Fortunately, none of the learners in the classroom were injured during the incident.

Local leaders say the tragic event has caused fear among pupils and staff at the school as authorities work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the lightning strike.

Residents have also called for increased lightning protection measures in schools across the district to prevent similar incidents in the future.
