Kayega dived into the water, rescued one of the goats and made attempts to dive back to save the second one, the move which was unssuccessful.
A herdsman who was trying to rescue a drowning goat slid and fell into a water reservoir and drowned. Kayega Peter, working at Mbowa Reagan’s farm in Bunyagira village, Bibbo parish, Kawolo Division in Lugazi Municipality, had rescued one of the two goats that fell into the reservoir, and was trying to rescue the second one when tragedy befell him.
Kayega, together with a colleague identified as Ssemakula was on August 10, 2025 grazing goats as the two of the animals went astray and fell into the reservoir belonging to Ssezibwa Sugar Mill.
Kayega dived into the water, rescued one of the goats and made attempts to dive back to save the second one, the move which was unssuccessful. Semakula heard his colleague crying for help and realized his colleague had slid and fallen into the water.
Semakula rushed and called another person called Kayira Peter who came with a rope with the intention of throwing it into the water for their friend to cling on and be pulled out. However, by the time they arrived, Kayega had drowned.
According to Ssezibwa police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, they called the deceased’s employer Mbowa who accordingly informed Lugazi police. The body was retrieved and taken to Kawolo General Hospital mortuary.
