The Minister of State for Works, Musa Francis Ecweru has written to the Amuria District Returning Officer communicating his decision to withdraw from the parliamentary race.
Ecweru was nominated as an independent candidate for Amuria County in Amuria district, a decision he has decided to willingly give up on this task.
He decided to run as an independent candidate after losing the party primary election to Samuel Ediau, a secondary school teacher, citing discrepancies in the election exercise.

However, on November 9, 2025, his supporters were dismayed to learn of his withdrawal decision which he communicated to the district Returning Officer and informed the national EC authorities, and the NRM party chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Ecweru’s withdrawal was endorsed by his official campaign agent Nathan Okiror, and two other agents Omuron Moses and Simon Peter Osio.

Samuel Ediau who is relatively new in the party after having defected from the UPC garnered 29,352 votes while Ecweru who is also the district NRM chairman, collected 19,977 votes.
While this dented Ecweru’s position over the 2026 elections, it was a great boost to Ediau’s status as a rising star in Teso politics. It is alleged that on 24th July 2025, the minister petitioned the party’s EC whereupon he was given a go-ahead to run as an independent.
However, on 9th November, Ecweru surprised many when he declared he had withdrawn from the race.
