Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende, has been arrested by Police while on her way to her home from Entebbe International Airport.

A member of National Unity Paltform (NUP), Malende was returning from Kenya, where she had been receiving medical treatment for some time. She was arrested at Katwe in Kampala.

Clad in an attire similar to the prisoners’ uniform with her hair cut, Malende said this is part of her peaceful protest against the continued jailing of political prisoners.

While addressing the media at Entebbe Airport immediately after landing, Malende also appealed to other opposition actors and her supporters to follow her action.

Her arrest is likely to have been prompted by the large crowd waiting for and escorting her from the airport, and in the process causing a commotion and blocking smooth traffic flow.
