Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende is said to be steadily recuperating from an internal organs operation in Nairobi’s Aga Khan University Hospital.
The NUP legislator has undergone a series of serious medical treatment rounds after her arrest during a parliamentary session on whether the UCDA should be merged with the line Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries last September, where she was taken to Nsambya Hospital in a serious condition.

Since then, Malende has been experiencing a lot of pain in the stomach to the extent that she has at times been finding it difficult to do any work let alone stand independently without support.
She was admitted and later discharged, but shortly after the problem intensified and she was re-admitted. Last month she was rushed to Nairobi after recurrence of acute abdominal pains, where she underwent an operation over the weekend.
According to her husband, Andrew Ssebunnya who is attending to her in hospital, she was given very strong drugs as doctors continue examining her. The operation followed incessant pains despite visiting several hospitals with no change being registered.
Ssebunnya said she was preliminarily administered with treatment to try to ease on the pain which is said to emanate from the stomach and extends to other parts of the body and that when no positive results were registered, the doctors prescribed an operation.
The vocal MP is one of the lawyers for the Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s led National Unity Platform (NUP). Her husband expressed optimism that she will get well soon and get back to her legislation business in addition to advocating for the freedom of NUP detainees.
