Arrangements for the wedding of Ssalongo Owere Macheke and his wife Nalongo Prossy Namirembe hit a hard lock when the organisers who were getting ready for the second wedding preparatory meeting slated on Sunday instead received phone calls informing them of the would-be groom’s death.
Macheke (67), who was getting ready for his wedding on January 30, 2026 was allegedly killed and his body dumped in Mabira Forest in Buikwe district. He has been a resident of Makata village in Nakisunga sub-county, Mukono district.
Nalongo Namirembe, the deceased’s wife told the mourners that he left home on Saturday morning to go and buy items to restock his shop, and that after the shopping, entrusted his motorbike with one person identified as Jack, and told him that he was travelling somewhere but would be back in the course of the day.

The next information that got to people was that his body had been recovered in Mabira Forest. Nalongo said that at around 2:00pm she tried to raise her husband with no response.
However, a few hours later she said, she received a call informing her that her husband’s body had been recovered from Mabira Forest with a rope tied around his neck.
“I highly suspect the rope was used by her assailants to hoodwink people that he had committed suicide,” she said.
She pointed out that the deceased had told her that he would be visiting his brother at an undisclosed place, but that the next news she received was that he was dead.

The deceased’s pastor Benjamin Mpungu told our reporter that Macheke was the head of laity in their church, a trustworthy and God-fearing man, destined to walk his wife down the aisle next month.
His burial was attended by many mourners and Pr. David Musoke lamented that society has discarded love for each other which was abundant in the past, with people having no value for their colleagues’ lives.
In their eulogies, different speakers spoke of Macheke as a down-to-earth kind person, and welcoming to whoever approached him for counselling.
