“When NRM brought peace, development followed. In Rubaga, we now have shopping malls, but our goal is to make everyone wealthy,” Museveni said.
President Yoweri Museveni has dismissed claims that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has neglected Buganda, citing significant development progress in the region.
Speaking at a campaign rally at Kitebi Primary School playgrounds, Museveni emphasized that peace brought by the NRM government has enabled growth, including shopping malls and industrial parks.
“When NRM brought peace, development followed. In Rubaga, we now have shopping malls, but our goal is to make everyone wealthy,” Museveni said, highlighting the government’s focus on wealth creation through initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and industrial parks. He noted that the PDM has enabled people to receive funds through SACCOs, with committees deciding who benefits.
Addressing concerns over PDM funds, Museveni said, “I wonder when I hear people say they don’t get this PDM money. Who chooses the SACCO committees? You should report them; it’s easy to find them.”
He added that the government has worked to improve livelihoods, from a time when Uganda lacked basic necessities like salt and sugar.
First Lady Janet Museveni emphasized the importance of unity and stability, thanking religious leaders for their prayers and guidance. “The Lord reminded the children of Israel that when their land was healed and they had prospered, they should never forget where He brought them from,” she said, urging Ugandans to remain united and focused on building a prosperous future.

NRM officials, including Alhajji Moses Kigongo and Rt. Hon. Anita Among, called for support for the party’s candidates, highlighting the NRM’s vision for a stronger, more stable Uganda.
Among emphasized the need for targeted interventions to strengthen wealth creation, youth empowerment, and urban livelihoods in Rubaga Division.
The rally showcased NRM’s focus on development in Buganda, with improvements in infrastructure, including upgraded roads and markets like Kasubi and Busega.
NRM Chairperson for Rubaga Division, Kamuntu Ivan Ssemakula Majjambere, commended Museveni for visible, people-centred development that has transformed Kampala and improved livelihoods.

Museveni also addressed local issues, assuring residents affected by the construction of Nateete Market that they would be compensated. He highlighted Uganda’s growing industrial parks, including Mbale, Kapeka, and Namanve, which create jobs and boost the economy.
The event was attended by NRM Central Executive Committee members, Members of Parliament, religious and cultural leaders, and thousands of supporters. As the 2026 general elections approach, the NRM is seeking renewed support from Buganda residents, emphasizing its commitment to development and prosperity.
