Ugandan musician Shafick Jingo, popularly known as Fik Gaza is currently under Police detention along with colleagues including Najib Magoola, David Mutuba also known as Marvin Gaza, and Charles Zziwa, for alleged involvement in robbery and other criminal cases bordering on being a public nuisance.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the four were arrested in a police intelligence and flying squad swoop, following complaints from residents of Katwe, Makindye and neighbouring areas, over atrocities by the group.
Police said the group was rounded up in an early morning ambush at their residence and taken to police where they were still detailed by press time.
Machetes, army uniforms and narcotic drugs were recovered from Fik Gaza’s home and these are incriminating exhibits to be tendered in court at their prosecution.
One of the suspects called Charles Zziwa has been on police’s wanted list following his escape from police custody where he had been taken on charges of murder.
Onyango was dismayed that some musicians have now turned to forming criminal gangs known in criminals’ lingua as ‘eggaali’, who attack travellers, gatherings for funeral rites, in bars and other places of entertainment, and strip them of their belongings and assault them.
Fik Gaza’s incident comes shortly after the release of another musician known as Alien Skin who was arrested on similar charges.
