As a solution, Nambooze advised the disgruntled NUP candidates to turn their attention to the voters, saying, “if they denied you their (NUP) cards, you should opt for the ‘people’s power’ – it is the people with the power to get you into leadership and not the card distributors”.

Mukono Municipality member of parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakireke has advised fellow National Unity Platform (NUP) aspirants who alleges that they were fraudulently denied party cards, to discard their NUP allegiance and stand as independent candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking in apparent reference to fellow NUP supporters, Mukono district Woman Member of Parliament, Hanifah Nabukeera and mayoral candidates Robert Peter Kabanda, Nambooze said it is irrational for a woman MP and a person seeking a mayoral seat to bribe authorities to give cards to weak candidates for councilors, all in the hope of clearing their personal passage to victory.
As a solution, Nambooze advised the disgruntled NUP candidates to turn their attention to the voters, saying, “if they denied you their (NUP) cards, you should opt for the ‘people’s power’ – it is the people with the power to get you into leadership and not the card distributors”.
The motor-mouthed legislator singled out one Sandra Nabatta who she claims was fleeced of sh2m with allegations that it was for the card distributing authorities, but that the people who took her money turned against her and gave the card to a better paying bidder instead.
Although they promised to refund her money and refunded only sh800,000, sh300,000 in cash and sh500,000 by mobile money, she has not been paid the outstanding amount.
“All this notwithstanding, Nabatta is by far a better performer down on the ground”, she said.
Nambooze said she has an audio recording indicating that one Mukono district councillor Yashiri Miiro Mpirinto, representing Kasawo Town Council, Sandra and one Martha were all asked to pay, and deducted that once one is caught in the cobweb of bribery, one cannot easily distance himself from subsequent charges.

Nambooze sounded disgusted to note that strong councilors have been destroyed by the corrupt individual who have led to their ejection in preference for weaker candidates who are easier to drop out through the ballot.
She let the cat out of the bag when she finally said, “If you feel people at the grassroots need you, take the ‘people power’ option; we have seen many people who took this option and served to people’s satisfaction”.
