Namuganza Loses Namutumba NRM Parliamentary Card in a Re-election

In the primaries, Maganda got 20,512 votes, Namuganza got 17,324, Siraji Gusongirye got 1,674, Paul Bajjebaite 1,869 and Andrew Mpanguzi got 609 votes.

After the primaries, Emma Maganda (49), was hospitalized at Namutumba Hospital after being brutally beaten in an election related violence and, while there, he was declared winner of the Bukono NRM parliamentary flag bearer, unseating incumbent State Minister for Housing Persis Namuganza.

Not satisfied, Namuganza took matters further to NRM Elections Tribunal where she complained that she had been grossly cheated of her votes.

Subsequently, the Kibaale sub-county and Kibaale Town Council results were cancelled and a re-run was arranged as prayed by Namuganza.

At the final count, Maganda collected 20,512 votes against Namuganza’s 17,761. The two have been tussling out for four consecutive rounds in the primaries and the general elections, and Namuganza, in spite of the big margin, maintains that the elections were marred by rigging in favour of her opponent.

By press time, Namuganza had not yet pronounced herself on the next course of action. She however asked the party’s national chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to intervene and correct the messes geared by mafias that are affecting the party heavily.
