It was a typical Wednesday night in Kira, Uganda, when the police swooped in on a wooden structure in Buwate-Najjera, catching ten suspects red-handed smoking suspected narcotic substances.
The operation, led by Kira Division Police in coordination with sister security agencies, aimed to disrupt the growing trend of criminal gangs operating in the area.
According to Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the suspects were arrested at around 10:00 p.m. on January 29, 2026, after intelligence suggested they were involved in various criminal activities, including waylaying pedestrians and stoning moving vehicles.

Exhibits, including rolled sticks and powdered leaves suspected to be narcotics, were recovered at the scene, further solidifying the police’s case against the suspects.
