The Bishop of Namirembe diocese, Moses Banja has banned collection of money during burial processions for church construction, buying ministers’ vehicles and other requirements, and advised Christians to devise other avenues for getting money for church requirements.
The bishop however clarified that the procedural offertory during requiem services remain in place. Banja said he made the decision which becomes operational in Namirembe diocese with the intention of upholding the dignity of the diocese.
This transpired during a diocesan council held on Friday at Namirembe, attended by parish delegates, parish priests, department heads and bishops. He began the meeting by making a roll call for which he was hailed by the IGG Betty Olive Kamya, saying he has exemplified himself as a hater of the indignant.
Among other regulations passed is the requirement for registration of vehicles belonging to ministers and the diocese in the inventory of Namirembe Diocese Development Organisation (NADDO). He also appreciated the work done by retired Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira and conferred upon him the title of Bishop Emeritus.
Another resolution was the requirement for couples seeking matrimonial formalities to produce proof of their sero status, although the status does not bar couples from getting married. The issuance of practicing licenses for ministers was also introduced.
