MP Migadde castigated police for exhibiting double standards while handling a matter of a criminal nature, and suggested that this is fraught with deepening rifts between the warring political sides.

Buvuma district leaders have intervened in a politically motivated scuffle which resulted in bloodletting at Muwama landing site in Lyabaana Town Council.
The scuffle is said to have resulted from a misunderstanding which developed between the supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the leading opposition party of the NUP, following accusations that the area police failed to reconcile the two sides as they (police) are alleged to be inclined towards the NUP.
After the NUP supporters took the day, NRM supporters sought redress from police where they claim they were turned away without any assistance, and subsequently seeking intervention of the area MP Robert Migadde Ndugwa and Buvuma district NRM chairperson Friday Wandera.

The aggrieved party suggested to the leaders that the police team be reprimanded for lacking impartiality in exercising justice.
As political friction seems to escalate countrywide, Buvuma islands have not been saved from the melee and several NRM supporters showed the district team wounds inflicted on them by their NUP counterparts in the recent physical interface.
The victims further reported that their attackers destroyed their property with charges of supporting a party they claim has entrenched suffering among Ugandans. Among the destroyed property were the roofs of different houses which were stoned by the suspects during the scuffle.

Two victimized NRM supporters include Sarah Kafuko whose finger was almost bitten off, while Jane Matinyi was badly beaten and sustained gaping facial wounds.
Narrating their ordeal, the victims said that the area police OC Benard Wanyama was adamant and even refused to give them a reference letter so that they seek assistance from higher authorities, which prompted them to seek intervention of their party and civic leaders.
OC Wanyama did not attend the meeting convened to resolve the matter but his representative, Richard Edaru said that as police, they had assumed that the matter was a slight one which could be amicably settled without necessitating involvement of higher authorities.

However, MP Migadde castigated police for exhibiting double standards while handling a matter of a criminal nature, and suggested that this is fraught with deepening rifts between the warring political sides.
He promised to provide fuel for Buvuma District Police Commander, Michael Bagoole and his team to visit the scene and make an informed ruling over the matter plus currying out community policing before the matters escalates further.
The locals also pinned the same police officers that they protected a group of NUP supporters who disorganized the NRM party parliamentary primaries to the extent that the votes from their polling station were disregarded.
“A group of NUP supporters stormed the polling station with the intention to enable a weak candidate maneuver through our station, when we tried to fight them off, the police officers instead ordered for the canceling of the voting exercise,” said Ritah Asekenye, a resident.
