Police in Mukono District are hunting for a gang of panga welding thugs who have terrorized different parts of Mukono Municipality cutting people and robbing them of their property.
The affected cells include; Jjoggo, Buddugala and Nyenje in Goma Division, Upper Kauga and Lower Kauga in Mukono Central Division.
David Ssemwogerere, the Upper Kauga Cell secretary for defense has told Kyaggwe TV that last week on Sunday, they found one of their residents, Ronald Nsubuga when he had been killed by stabbing and his body dumped by the roadside.
Ssemwogerere said that according to the investigating officers who visited Nsubuga’s crime scene, they concluded that he could have been killed from another place and his body was just dumped there.
“The crime scene lacked signs of scuffle between the assailants and the deceased. The residents are now panicking following the twin murder incidents. Imagine a gun which has been stolen, won’t it be used to rob us,” he wondered.
Also on Saturday August 3, a number of cells in Goma and Mukono Central Division were attacked by alleged pang welding thugs who were traveling on motorcycles who cut scores of residents who are currently nursing wounds in different health facilities.
One of the survivors is Badru Sikula, a resident of Lower Kauga who narrates that at around 10:00pm, they heard a woman crying from outside, alleging that a bodaboda rider had robbed her of all her belongings and injured her as well.
“When I went to see what had happened, I saw a lady looking helpless and a motorcycle packed there. It was at that moment that two men cut me in the head and unconsciously fell down. Fortunately, my wife was following but from a distance, she saw what transpired and started alarming,” he said.
Sikula added that the assailants tried to chess her but she ran and locked herself in the house. After they had jumped on the motorcycle and left, she mobilized neighbours who came to my rescue and took me to hospital.
He alleged that all the valuables he had were taken by the thieves including his phone and money.
When contacted, the Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Hajjat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka said that he had learnt about the incidents and directed the Mukono Police Division Officer in charge of investigations to furnish her with a detailed report but he had not yet responded.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incidents saying that Police had arrested four people in connection to those incidents.
Onyango added that Police also recovered the two motorcycles suspected to have been used by the assailants.

Mukono Police division are also hunting for the unknown assailants who attacked and killed the private security guard deployed at the rented premises belonging to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson identified the deceased as Patrick Okware (35) who was attached to Marvel Security Limited. The incident is said to have happened at Upper Kauga Cell in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality on Tuesday morning.
Onyango said that the assailants, after cutting Okware, disappeared with his gun.
“Okware’s body had two deep wounds on the left hand side next to the ear which was also cut,” he said. The body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
It’s alleged that on August 6, 2024 at around 6:00am one of the tenants identified as Michael Kenga woke up after hearing someone outside screaming from outside.
Kenga reported in a Police statement that upon checking outside, he discovered their security guard who had been guarding their residence (Kazimba hostels) lying down in a pool of blood.
“I immediately carried the victim into my vehicle and rushed him to Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital from where he was pronounced dead. I later went and reported the matter to Mukono Police,” Kenga revealed in his statement.
Onyango however said that they are suspecting that the prime suspect in this murder must be Okware’s colleague, with whom they have been guarding the facility together. Police have only identified the prime suspect as Wilber who is currently on the run.
Police have arrested the caretaker of the facility identified as Alice Nyachwo (36) to aid in the investigations.
When contacted on phone for a comment, Peter Muwanguzi who is in charge of this business on behalf of the Archbishop Kazimba declined to provide any information saying that they were not interested in publicizing the matter.
