Following the planned maintenance of phase one of the 21kms of Kampala Northern Bypass slated to have kicked off on Saturday, affected sections of the road will be closed to provide room for the 6-month work, and diversions will be created to ease movement and traffic flow.
In a 27th December public notice issued by the Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, it was disclosed that affected carriageway sections of the road are to be fully closed for safety and efficiency, with traffic diversions to the opposite side.
Focus of the work is to be between the Kisaasi and Busega carriageways to remove old asphalt, process the base priming and lay new asphalt overlay. Closure of the affected sections is to be in effect day and night.
Road users are however advised, wherever possible, to adjust their movement schedule and use alternative access routes off the bypass, to avoid delays.
Through the same communication, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Works and Transport Susan Kataike has informed the public that work has begun to provide drainage pipelines to create room for the mentioned diversion.
Kataike clarified that only the affected sections at the Kisaasi and Busega interchanges are to be closed, and added that traffic police will be fully available to guide the flow of traffic as the work is simultaneously taking place.
