The Kyesiiga sub-county chairperson, Gordon Mayanja Ssebuggwawo said the area is in tension following an upsurge of child abduction and sacrifice cases.
Masaka police has arrested 12 people connected to the abduction of a 7-year old child from Ddimu landing site and menacingly demanding for a ransom running between sh25m and sh30m from the parents. They were netted from various places at Ddimu, Kyesiiga and Mitindo-Kalisizo in Kyotera district.
After kidnapping Ali Wasswa on Friday as he went to school from the home of his parents, Ssalongo Erias Yebwase and Nnalongo Yudaaya Nassali, they started calling them demanding for the money with threats that should they fail to raise the money, their son would be killed, whereupon the parents reported to police.

Those arrested include Nelson Lutaaya, Maria Goretti Nambajjo, Prossy Namugamba, Namukwaya Rose Mary, Ssewango Matia, Kasumba Yuda, Yawe Robert, Kiwendo Paul, Hussein Muhamed, Maseruka Dennis and Wamala Emma. They were travelling in a TOYOTA ‘Drone’ minibus which was impounded.

The Police spokesperson for Greater Masaka region,Twaha Kasirye said the 12 will be arraigned before court on charges of kidnap with intent to defraud and murder.

In January, Kyomukama Esther and her lover Kayemba Ssande both of Rakai district were arrested by Kimaanya-Kabonera police for abducting a child identified as John Sserwanja, from his parents’ home at Kirimya in Masaka district, with the intention of sacrificing him.
Residents gave mixed views on the matter. Robert Kasiita advised parents not to readily accept whoever comes to them as friends because many have hidden agendas, while Anna Namugga wants law enforcers to pass deterrent sentences to such people as a way of stopping the crime.
