The Rwenzori Region police have dismissed claims of attempted kidnap made by James Byamukama, an aspirant for Member of Parliament, Mwege South Constituency.
Byamukama alleged that he was nearly kidnapped by individuals in civilian attire at a Fort Portal hotel, but police investigations found no evidence to support his claim.
According to Rwezori Region Police Spokesperson, Vincent Twesigye, the vehicle Byamukama claimed was trailing him belonged to Prime Financial Services, and was being driven by a staff member who was also staying at the hotel.
Police are warning political actors against using “dramatic political gimmicks” that cause unnecessary fear and panic among the public.
