Police in Kampala have launched investigations into the mysterious death of an unidentified woman who collapsed at the Old Taxi Park after seeking shelter from a midday downpour.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman had joined several passengers who had taken cover at the park while waiting for the rain to subside so they could continue their journeys.

It is alleged that the woman had entered one of the taxis at the Ggaba Stage to shelter from the rain. However, moments later she reportedly collapsed and died instantly, shocking other passengers and stage operators at the busy transport hub.

Witnesses said the incident caused panic among people at the stage, with many running away after realizing the woman had suddenly died.

Willy Kamya, one of the taxi stage operators, said they immediately alerted the Uganda Police Force, which responded and examined the scene.

Police later transported the body to Mulago City Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of her death.

Authorities have also begun efforts to identify the deceased and trace her relatives.
