It is alleged that the driver of the speeding YY Bus lost control leading to its overturning and later it caught fire which completely reduced it and some of the passengers to ashes.

Police in Buikwe district have confirmed recovery of three unidentified bodies following a fatal road accident that involved YY Bus on Monday May 5, 2025.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety said that the accident which involved a Scania motor vehicle registration number UAV 701C belonging to YY Bus Company happened at around 5:00pm at Makindu village in Najja sub-county in Buikwe district on Kisoga-Nyenga road.
It is alleged that the driver of the speeding YY Bus lost control leading to its overturning and later it caught fire which completely reduced it and some of the passengers to ashes.
Kananura however said that by press time, Police had recovered three unidentified bodies and that the search was still ongoing.
“The vehicle was travelling from Kisoga side to Jinja when the driver lost control at Makindu Village. It overturned and caught fire, resulting in the loss of lives of people who are yet to be identified, and injuries to multiple passengers who have been rushed to Kawolo Hospital, St. Charles Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, and other nearby health facilities, where they are currently receiving medical attention,” Kananura said.
He added that police and emergency services were at the scene, working to extinguish the fire and recover the bodies of those who perished.
“We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available,” he said.
The incident comes just two days after the country began to come to terms with the death of Rajiv Ruparelia, managing director of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, whose car crashed into roadside barriers.
Rajiv’s car caught fire which burnt his body beyond recognition.
On Monday, the Minister for Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala announced the establishment of a committee to investigate the incident.
