Following her warning to all serving Resident District, City Commissioners and their deputies intending to vie for different political offices come 2026 that after tendering in their resignations, they should not expect making a U-turn if things do not go on well for them.

The Minister for Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda has scheduled a meeting for all RDCs, RCCs, assistant RDCs and RCCs together with all their deputies who are planning to join the elective politics come 2026. The meeting which the Minister has called through the letter written on March 27, 2025 and copied to the President, the Vice President, the secretary Office of the President, the head of the RDC secretariat and the Dean of RDCs is scheduled to take place on Thursday April 3, 2025 at 10:00am in the Minister’s boardroom.

The minister says that the meeting is intended to discuss their intentions and give them the required guidance. She asks the invitees to make sure that they attend in person.

While addressing the press in Soroti City recently, Babalanda asserted that once RDCs choose to pursue a political career, they should do so with the understanding that there will be no opportunity for them to return to their former roles if their political ambitions do not succeed in the upcoming 2026 elections.

“If you decide that you want to quit politics, go for good; we have no room for you at the presidency again,” said the minister.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting young, capable individuals, including journalists who will fill the RDC’s positions who will resign for greener pastures in politics.

She said that will give an opportunity to have deputy RDCs promoted to full RDC roles. “Therefore, if you think of coming back, it will be doing others injustice,” she added.

The Minister made it clear that the trend of leaving for politics and expecting to return would not be tolerated.

Babalanda mentioned that she had been informed about the Resident City Commissioner for Soroti City Peter Pex Paak’s intentions to run for the member of Parliament, reiterating her stance that there will be no space for those who fail to secure political positions.

In response, Peter Pex Paak acknowledged his political aspirations, stating, “It’s true I’m going for politics like any right-minded Ugandan, but I am going to use the appropriate measures to leave.”

He expressed confidence in his own capabilities and reassured that if his political venture does not succeed, he would have no doubt about returning to his previous role since the appointing authority knows his capabilities in executing his duties.
