The President of the Rotary Club of Nansana, Fred Mukasa pointed out that much more money is still needed to complete the work, and appealed for assistance towards the facility which will accommodate a maternity wing and other sections.

Members of the Rotary Club of Nansana have been conducted around the project of expanding Nakkuule Health Centre II which they are funding with a view to raise it to a level enabling it to be upgraded to Health Centre IV to meet the community demand of the rapid growth of its patient load.

According to the medical officer in-charge of Nakkuule Health Centre II, Dr. Kasoga Loy, patients seeking services at the facility are increasing on a daily basis despite its worrying levels, especially when it comes to expectant mothers who are sometimes turned back without getting services, leading to death of some of them.

The in-charge told the Rotarians who were accompanied by officials from Buganda government including an executive of BUCADEF and other development partners giving a helping hand in construction of the expansion wing, also learned that the patient load has risen to an estimated 200 with many of them being expectant mothers, who cannot be adequately treated with facilities of health centre II.

Dr. Kasoga underscored the urgency needed for completion of the over sh4bn extension wing, adding that under the prevailing conditions, patients are turned away to seek services from elsewhere because she noted, her facility does not have the essential capacity to handle them to satisfaction.

“Their numbers are always steadily increasing and it is painful to find that we have to send some of them away without giving them the treatment they need; some are reported to die on the way in search of attention from other facilities,” she said.

District Governor for Rotary Club 9213 Geofrey Kitaakule reported that the facility they are helping construct is intended to be a beginning point for tickling the Ministry to upgrade this health unit to a level that can handle patients within its catchment area, who he said are increasing as a result of the ongoing urbanization drive in the country.

“Their numbers are increasing while facilities at the health unit are not being stepped up which naturally makes it impossible for the medical staff to offer services as expected of them,” Kitaakule noted.

The head of Mengo government’s BUCADEF Rotarian Alfred Bakyusa reported that through Buganda Land Board, Buganda Kingdom availed land for construction of the new facility, all in an attempt to step up health standards of the kingdom’s subjects.
