The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame has fired 195 senior military serving officers from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).

On Friday President Kagame is reported to have dismissed several high-ranking military officers, including Major General Martin Nzaramba and Colonel Etienne Uwimana, in a purge of the country’s armed forces.

The dismissals, which include 195 other military personnel, come after allegations of corruption, misconduct, and violations of the military code of conduct, according to the local media.

Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, the RDF spokesperson, told local media that Maj-Gen Nzaramba was dismissed due to corruption and mismanagement of funds meant for the welfare of soldiers when he headed the Nasho Military Training Institute.

He said Col Dr Uwimana was fired for violating the military code of conduct and for grave mistakes he made, without giving details.

The spokesperson said others were also dismissed for corruption and other forms of misconduct that violated military regulations.
