Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libya’s former leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed in the western city of Zintan, where he had been based for the past decade.
The 53-year-old was reportedly shot dead, though circumstances surrounding his killing are unclear.
His death was confirmed by political adviser Abdullah Othman, and has sparked calls for an urgent investigation from former High State Council head Khaled al-Mishri.

Saif al-Islam was seen as his father’s political heir and was detained in Zintan after the 2011 uprising that ended Muammar Gaddafi’s rule.
He was released in 2017 under a general pardon and had remained in Zintan. His killing comes amid Libya’s ongoing political fragmentation and insecurity, particularly in western regions controlled by rival armed groups.
