Security Guard Shoots Colleague Dead in Makindye

The Police are hunting for a security guard who allegedly shot his colleague whom they have been staying with.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesman said that Peter Ochoroi developed a quarrel with John Mujumbi over unknown reasons which ended into a fatal shooting.

The duo has been security guards attached to Capital Guards and Patrol. The incident is reported to have happened on Saturday May 13, 2023 at around 12:30pm in Kalule Zone, Lukuli Parish, Makindye Division in Kampala district.

Owoyesigyire said that Mujumbi (25) and Ochoroi (26) were stationed at IDAK Apartments in Konge as part of their security duties.

According to the initial reports, the two individuals had been sharing a rented room provided by the company.

“Both guards were armed with Semi-Automatic Rifles (SAR), each loaded with five rounds of ammunition. Their assigned duty was to provide security during night time, as per their supervisor’s instructions,” he said.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an argument between the two guards, conducted in a language they did not understand.

Shortly thereafter, a gunshot was heard originating from the same room. The police swiftly responded to the scene, accompanied by the divisional team and the Scene of Crime Officer.

Owoyesigyire said: “The victim was immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

According to the preliminary investigations, the two rifles were discovered at the scene. Two small magazines, capable of holding five rounds of ammunition each, were also recovered near the firearms. Additionally, two sets of company uniforms were also found in the room.

The deceased is said to have sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead, resulting in profuse bleeding.

At this stage, Owoyesigyire said the motive behind the incident remains unclear and is currently under investigation.

Efforts are however underway to gather additional information about both the victim and the suspect through their employer, the security company.

Furthermore, the post-mortem report from Mulago City Mortuary will be obtained, and the exhibited firearms and cartridge case will be submitted to a ballistic expert for analysis.

“The primary objective of the ongoing inquiry is to locate and apprehend the suspect. We urge the public to cooperate with law enforcement and provide any relevant information that may assist in the investigation,” the police mouthpiece said.

his incident comes when yesterday, an Indian national, Uttam Bhandari and a director of TFS Financial Services at Raja Chambers in Kampala, was shot and killed by a Police Officer.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango identified the suspects as No.67029 Private Constable Wabwire Ivan.

Last week on Saturday May 6, unidentified assailants shot dead the president of the bloggers association in Uganda, Isma Olaxes a.k.a Jajja Iculi from his home at Kyanja. Police arrested a number of suspects in connection to that murder including his driver who was identified as Wasswa.

Also the State Minister for Labour, Rtd. Col. Charles Okello Engola was shot by his bodyguard Wilson Sabiiti, who later shot himself.
