Six students who have just completed their UCE examinations have been arrested and detained at Mukono police for allegedly setting fire to a school dormitory.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson has told Kyaggwe TV that a week ago, the unnamed students led a strike during which they burnt the school dormitory. However, the grievances that led them to commit the felony were not disclosed.
Onyango said that the fellow students together with the teachers managed to set off the fire and the investigations on the individuals who were behind it started.
Because the named suspects were S4 finalists writing their final examinations, Onyango said that the school administration did not wish to disorganize their papers and so stayed the matter up to finalization of the examinations and then brought them to police where they were detained on Monday.
“A case of arson has been opened against them and prosecution will begin as soon as investigations are completed,” he said.
