The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among has today’s morning Wednesday August 13, 2025 met with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City, Rome.
Among’s meeting with the Pope followed a Mass celebrated by the Holy Father, during which prayers were offered for peace, unity, and love among nations.
Among’s visit comes at a time when there are a few days remaining to the hot contested National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections slated for August 20-23, 2025 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The Speaker is contesting with the First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga for the post of Vice chairperson (Female) in CEC.
After posting her pictures with the Pontiff this morning, social media users have translated the Speaker’s holy visit to the Holy City, Rome as a political move where she decided to go and ask for the blessings which will see her triumph through the election from the Pope.
Others say that because Kadaga has been moving district by district smearing Among with falsehoods that she was served with sanctions which are barring her from moving beyond Uganda, she wanted to prove her wrong as the date for the elections gets closer.
Kadaga says that the sanctions are as a result of being corrupt, something which Among says is not true.
