Three people have been confirmed dead following a speeding driver of a Harrier who rammed into the Kadodi-Imbalu procession killing three people and injuring over 19.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesperson has identified the deceased as; John Wamimba (16), Abel Wangala and another who is yet to be identified.
Taitika has informed Kyaggwe TV that that the accident involved a Toyota Harrier registration number UBQ 028V, Blue in Color and a Motorcycle, Bajaj Boxer number UEO 965A and Kadodi-Imbalu procession happened at Nangwasi Cell in Nabumali Town Council, Mbale district on Wednesday 06/11/2024 at around 7:30pm.
“It is alleged that the Harrier driver who was at a terrific speed from the direction of Lwakhakha towards Bumbobi rammed into the said Kadodi-Imbalu procession crowd which was also moving in the same direction and killed two male adults on spot and injured about 13 others who were taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention,” he said, adding that another person who was among the casualties later died from the hospital.
The injured people according to Police include; Malukye Ben (18), a resident of Bushangi Village in Mbale district, Wambi Moses (20) of Nabumali Town Council, Naluwende Loyce (30) of Busoba sub-county, Emma Wanda (30) from Bushangi village, Musapiti Shedrack (25) of Busoba sub-county.
Others are; Nambuya Edisa (22), Mabonga Bernard (34), Wanda Umar (22), Welikhe Eddy (25), Walyaula Emma (20), Mukhulu Isaac (22), Wasike Sam (18), Wepukhulu David (18), Nandaba Ivan (19), Wamono Gracious (19), Jude Wungala (20), Mukhwana Simon (36) and Butoto Dennis (40).
Taitika said that police are still hunting for the driver of the Harrier who is currently on the run.
The bodies for the deceased people were delivered to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.
