Learners of St. Francis Namiryango Hillside Day and Boarding Primary School in Goma Division, Mukono Municipality have participated in the 3rd edition of the National Inter- School Miss Uganda competition geared at developing young learners’ skills and talents in public speech, raising their self-esteem, discover and develop their hidden talents as a life skill for the future.

The Inter-schools Miss Uganda competition which is being organized for the third time since 2023, is an annual event rotating around primary and secondary schools, and this year it has attracted over 30 schools. It will climax in the finals on January 24, 2026 at the Golf Course in Kampala.

According to Sarah Keiza, an executive of Eiffel Models Uganda, the project has discovered that many children may be talented without themselves knowing this, and so this undertaking helps in awakening their hidden talents which may be handy for their future survival.

Keiza said these competitions are arranged in three categories including the Minis, for nursery tots to primary four, the Juniors for those from Primary Four to Primary Six, and the Teens for those from S.1 to S.5.

On the tricks employed to make the young ones shine, St. Francis Namilyango Hillside teachers Rebbeca (for the Nursery section) who heads the school’s Music Dance and Drama (MDD) department and Akot Christine (for P1 to P.3), they endeavor to make the things taught as enjoyable and lively as possible, and give the children to as much as possible do what pleases them.

The teachers further explained that this gives the children encouragement which in turn breeds confidence, on which the teachers build to awaken the children’s unexploited talents.
