Tensions Rise as NUP EMC Hands Over MPs Vetting Results to Kyagulanyi

Among the constituencies that have put people on tension include; Kampala District Woman MP seat which is contested among the incumbent, Shamim Malende and the KCCA speaker, Zahara Maara Luyirika.

Tensions have risen amongst different candidates who went through the National Unity Platform (NUP) Election Management Committee (EMC) vetting for the parliamentary positions across the country.

The EMC chairperson, Harriet Chemutai has today’s morning handed over the full list of the successful members to the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, before heading to Jinja, where he is slated to hold his 2026 presidential campaign and manifesto launch.

Over the weekend, different social media platforms published what was claimed to be the successful lists of different candidates.

Among the constituencies that have put people on tension include; Kampala District Woman MP seat which is contested among the incumbent, Shamim Malende and the KCCA speaker, Zahara Maara Luyirika.

In Jinja City North, the struggle is between Ramadhan Nanga who in 2021 lost the seat to FDC’s David Isabirye Aga under NUP’s blessing. However, Isabirye also switched allegiance to NUP and the duo is also facing another strong man, a comedian Hussein Muyonjo a.k.a Swengere.

Makindye West’s Allan Ssewanyana is battling with David Musiri, Makindye Mayor Ali Kasirye Mulyannyama and Farooq Ntege.

Buganda Elders Endorse NUP’s Kyagulanyi Ahead of Presidential Campaigns Launch

Mulyannyama switched interest from the Lord Mayorship which he had initially wanted to run for, and turned to Makindye West.

For Busiro East MP seat, the incumbent, Medard Lubega Sseggona is battling for the flag with Kyengera Mayor, Sir Mathias Walukagga and Emmanuel Magoola Matovu.

MP Aloysius Mukasa of Lubaga South is facing Eugene Nassolo, Adam Mugga and Obed Lubega. For Mityana District Woman MP seat, there is a strong battle between Joyce Bagala, Prossy Mukisa Nabosa, Fausta Nalubega Bitaano and the district speaker, Catherine Nalweyiso.

Though the results have been already handed over to Kyagulanyi, their public declaration is still pending. However, the candidates have been warned to wait until the official results are pinned on the party’s official social media platforms.
