TMR International Hospital Naalya has today, November 15, 2025 opened up on allegations that the facility detained the body of a Primary Six learner, late Augustine Kizito Ssemakula over unsettled bills accruing to sh150m.

Augustine, who was a learner at Greenhill Academy Buwaate in Kira Municipality and a son to Mukono lawyer Kenneth Nsubuga Ssebagayunga, died on Wednesday 12th November 2025 after falling off the second floor at school while playing with his peers. He was hospitalized for three weeks in ICU following the incident.

In a press statement, TMR International Hospital management has refuted the allegations saying they were baseless and inaccurate.

“We extend our condolences to the family. Augustine’s passing is a profound loss, and despite the tireless efforts of our medical team and the full spectrum of interventions provided, we were unable to save his life,” TMR Hospital clarified adding;

“Throughout his admission, the family received full clinical guidance and administrative support and all decisions about his care were made in close consultation with his parents.”

The management said that right from admission, the family received continuous clinical, administrative and financial support and several meetings were held with them to review care plans, address concerns and discuss financial considerations.

“During the admission period, intensive care was provided throughout. We also offered the option of transferring the patient to another ICU-capable facility, should the family prefer. They opted to continue care with us, expressing confidence in the treatment provided.

At the family’s request, the hospital extended flexible financial arrangements, including a substantial discount and a revised payment plan to ease the burden during this challenging period.

The figures being circulated in the media do not reflect the actual bill or any official communication from the hospital. Claims that the bill accumulated to sh150m are inaccurate and misleading.

After his demise, the body was never withheld by TMR International Hospital. At no point did the hospital delay, deny or place conditions on the release of the body. Any allegations suggesting otherwise are entirely unfounded.

Throughout this process, the hospital has remained in continuous communication with the family and our relationship with them remains respectful and cooperative.

We urge the media to exercise responsible reporting, verify facts before publication and respect the privacy of the family as they go through this difficult time.

TMR International Hospital remains committed to professionalism, transparency and excellence in the delivery of healthcare.”

Augustine died on Wednesday 12th November 2025 after falling off the second floor of the storeyed building on 22nd October 2025. He will be laid to rest on Sunday, November 16, at Kekembe.
