The Police in Mukono are holding a trailer driver and his co-driver for threatening to crash the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among in what would turn out to be a deadly accident in Mukono.
The Parliament spokesperson, Chris Obore identified the suspects as Lubega Ivan (32) the trailer driver and Waiswa Amis, his co-driver who are currently held at Mukono Police Station to assist in investigations.
Obore on Saturday reported that the Speaker on Friday evening narrowly escaped a road accident after her convoy was nearly hit by a trailer in Mukono District.
He revealed in a statement that the incident occurred at around 5:45pm as the Speaker was returning to Kampala from Bugweri District, where she had been campaigning for President Yoweri Museveni in her capacity as the Second Vice Chairperson of the NRM (Female).
Obore said the trailer, which was travelling towards Jinja, swerved into the Speaker’s convoy after several vehicles had already passed.
“The Speaker’s driver managed to steer the vehicle to the edge of the road, avoiding what could have been a serious accident,” he noted.
Fortunately, the Speaker and members of her team were reported safe following the incident.
