The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has reminded broadcasters and online communication platforms that only the Electoral Commission (EC) is authorized to declare official election results.

This directive aims to protect the public from premature or unauthorized declarations, which can cause confusion and undermine trust in the electoral process.

According to UCC, any declaration, projection, or publication of election results from unauthorized sources is strictly prohibited.

This includes radio, television, online platforms, and social media. The EC is the sole authority for tallying, declaring, and announcing results from polling stations.

The warning comes as Uganda approaches its 2026 general elections slated for Thursday next week, on January 15.

UCC will take administrative and legal action against violators, including fines, suspension of broadcasts, or prosecution. The EC has also emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and adherence to guidelines.
