A high-level Ugandan delegation, led by Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa, recently met with Tanga Region’s Commissioner Dr. Batilda Buriani to discuss the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project.

The delegation was impressed by the project’s progress, citing significant socio-economic benefits for Tanga Region.

Dr. Buriani praised the EACOP team’s commitment to safety and environmental protection, while Dr. Nankabirwa highlighted the project’s potential to transform Tanga, with over 12,000 workers trained and employed.

The Minister noted that the visit was intended to witness the progress of EACOP firsthand and expressed anticipation for October, when Uganda and Tanzania are expected to jointly host the commissioning of the project in the presence of the two Heads of State.

The meeting showcased strong Uganda-Tanzania cooperation, with both countries expecting to jointly host the project’s commissioning in October.

The EACOP project is a 1,443km pipeline transporting crude oil from Uganda’s Lake Albert region to Tanzania’s Tanga port, with a 70% completion rate and expected commissioning by July 2026.
