Uganda Social Educational Welfare Association (UGASEWA) has successfully held its Annual Ramadan Orphanage & Mosques Charity Program 2026 at Mukwano Mall, bringing together sponsors, volunteers, and community members in a collective effort to support vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan.
The 2026 initiative reached more than 110 beneficiaries across Uganda, distributing donations worth sh140m. The support included food supplies, essential household items, and other welfare assistance aimed at enabling orphanages and mosques to observe Ramadan with dignity and comfort.
UGASEWA is a charity organization established in 1996 and registered in 2003, run by Indians from the Kanyakumari district living in Uganda. It provides financial assistance for education, medical needs, and self-employment to underprivileged people in both Uganda and India.
Speaking at the event, M.S. Saleem, Chairman of UGASEWA, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the association’s sponsors and partners for their continued generosity.
Saleem specifically acknowledged the contributions of Mukwano Industries, Mandela Group, Sudhir Ruparelia of the Ruparelia Group, Gateway Group, and numerous well-wishers from the community.
“Our sponsors and members have once again demonstrated the true meaning of Ramadan through their generosity and compassion,” he said.
Abdul Gafoor, former Chairman and a longstanding pillar of the association, congratulated the current leadership for sustaining and expanding the charity program. He commended their dedication to ensuring that the initiative continues to grow and impact more lives each year.

The program’s coordinator, Mohamed Vaheed, who also previously served as Chairman, reflected on its steady growth over the past nine years.
Vaheed noted that when the initiative began during his tenure as General Secretary, it supported only a handful of orphanages with modest funding.
“Today, the program has expanded tremendously, distributing hundreds of millions of shillings in aid annually,” he noted. “Our general body members are the key contributors to this success. The generosity of our sponsors and the commitment of our volunteers ensure that we continue to promote the true spirit of Ramadan — charity, kindness, and solidarity.”
He also extended appreciation to the executive committee for their tireless efforts in mobilizing resources and organizing the annual drive.
