UNEB Appeals to Arts Teachers to Hold Strike in Interest of S4 UNEB Exams

A total of 432,025 students including 670 with disabilities and reflecting a 12.1 percent increment from last year’s 379,699 are registered to write the UACE examinations.

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has appealed to teachers who went through the sieving process to serve as supervisors, scouts and invigilators in the final Uganda Certificate Examinations (UCE) which kicks off today on Friday October 10, 2025 with the briefing session, to stay the strike and get to work.

The appeal has been sounded by the UNEB spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule Musamba noting that UNEB has no attachment to their salary increment plight, and added that invigilation and scouting are voluntary national services that contribute immensely to peaceful finalization of the examinations on schedule.

The examinations are starting at a time when Arts subject teachers countrywide opted for industrial action since the term began, with demands to be paid a salary increment equal to that paid to their science subjects’ counterparts.

Justifying their action, the teachers said they have been given empty promises by the government for over a long period, adding that their patience has been drained.

On the part of UNEB she said, all requisite arrangements for beginning the examinations have been put in place, with supervisors trained to train invigilators and scouts to necessary standards.

“All this week, we have been preparing area supervisors to brief invigilators on their roles during the examination time,” she affirmed.

A total of 432,025 students including 670 with disabilities and reflecting a 12.1 percent increment from last year’s 379,699 are registered to write the UACE examinations.

According to the UNEB time table, students will officially start writing their exams on Monday morning with Geography and Biology in the afternoon.
